For years, archaeologists have assumed the Mayan calendar prediction 12.21.2012 meant the end of an era on Earth. Today, more and more researchers, spiritual explorers, and even scientists are witnessing signs that 2012 will mark a critical shift in the history of our planet. The date 12.21 2012 is the ending of the current cycle of the Mayan long count calendar used throughout Central America. The Long Count was likely invented by the Olmecs and has been used with most of the tribes in Central America including the Mayans. The classic period of the Mayan civilization lasted from 250 to 900 AD. The Mayans were great astronomers and mathematicians.  Their written language has been largely deciphered.  A large part of the language has survived carved into monuments and been translated allowing us to know a great deal about their culture, sports, mathematical abilities and the fantastic accuracy of their astronomers.  It is believed that there were people kept in darkness and trained as astronomers so that they could more easily see the stars at night and be able to make the sightings and measurements necessary to mark the movements of the planets, stars and heavenly bodies in our system. 

The Mayan Long Count calendar has as its set its zero date a point in the past marking the end of the previous world and the beginning of the current one. This is believed to be either the 11th or 13th of August 3114 BC. The Long Count was linear, rather than cyclical. It kept time roughly in units of 20.  A span of  20 days made a uinal, 18 uinals which made 360 days, made a tun and 20 tuns made a k'atun, and 20 k'atuns, or 144,000 days, made up a b'ak'tun.  The Mayan date of 8.3.2.10.10 represents 8 b'ak'tuns, 3 k'atuns, 2 tuns, 10 uinals and 10 days since creation or the beginning of the calendar. Some Mayan inscriptions have the count changing to a higher order after 13 b'ak'tuns.  The most widely used translations of the end of the thirteenth b'ak'tun, or Mayan date 13.0.0.0.0, with our calendar becomes either December 21 or December 23, 2012.

In 1957, Maud Worcester Makemson the early Mayanist and astronomer wrote that "the completion of a Great Period of 13 b'ak'tuns would have been of the utmost significance to the Maya". The great anthropologist Munro S. Edmonson added that "there appears to be a strong likelihood that the eral calendar, like the year calendar, was motivated by a long-range astronomical prediction, one that made a correct you forecast 2,367 years into the future in 355 B.C. [sic]". Michael D. Coe asserted in The Maya in 1966 that "there is a suggestion ... that Armageddon would overtake the degenerate peoples of the world and all creation on the final day of the thirteenth [b'ak'tun]. Thus ... our present universe [would] be annihilated on December 24, AD 2011, when the Great Cycle of the Long Count reaches completion." later revised to December 23, 2012

Michael Coe's predictions of the 2012 Armageddon was accepted by other scholars. Some later researchers thought that, while the end of the 13th b'ak'tun could be a cause for celebration instead of a climaxing event it just mark the end of the calendar.  The Mayan 2012 scholars Linda Schele and David Freidel, who cite Edmonson, pursued that the Mayan's "did not conceive this to be the end of creation, as many have suggested referencing  Mayan predictions of events which may occur after the end of the 13th b'ak'tun. Schele and Freidel claim that creation date inscribed at Coba was 13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.0.0.0.0.The twenty units above the k'atun  should be treated as 0s, which means the Coba number would be read as  0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0, with the numbers of each column beyond the second moving from right to left would be equal to 20 times those of the previous one The Maya, with their concept of time in cycles, wrote the date of creation as well, the zero date, was 13.0.0.0.0. This number represented was the starting point of a huge counter of time. Schele and Freidel calculated the last date this counter would run out lies some 4.134105 × 1028 years in the future. This is some 3 quintillion times the estimated age of the universe and is complicated by the fact that many different city states use the long count in different ways. Some evidence suggests that other priest timekeepers believed the cycle would end after 20 b'ak'tuns, rather than 13. The monument of king Pakal the Great commemorating his ascension connects his coronation as king with events as far as 4000 years later, showing that they did not believe the world would end on 13.0.0.0.0.

It really is not known what the end result will be when the calendar runs out will there be a disaster small enough to let us survive?  Scientists are aware of many of the heavenly bodies in our solar system and track them but there are comets, asteroids and others smaller dark bodies in space that could remain undetected and impact the earth.  We do not know if there will be a disaster in the future but with a little bit of preparation you can be ready for it and ensure your survival.  Read the other pages and learn how to find water in your house for emergency use.  How to get food when the stores are closed and there is no power.  On a large scale event the government will not be able to come in and rescue you.  You must be prepared.  Just think of the recent Mt. Saint Helens volcanic eruption.  The ash cloud covered many towns even in other states and shut down stores.  The ash clogged engines of the automobiles as driving through it stirred it up so travel was restricted.  Helicopters and planes did not fly through it so do not count on immediate help.  Remember that Yellostone National park is a giant volcano and geologists predict it can erupt at any time.  Some geologists refuse to work in the area knowing it can be dangerous to do so.  When it erupts it will cover nearly two thirds of North America with an ash cloud.  Storms, hurricanes and earthquakes are getting more frequent and can be deadly if you are not prepared for them with 2012 survival knowledge.

Another indicator of an emergency on the way is the web bot project.

The Web Bots are a series of automated web crawling robots which search the entire internet for looking for patterns and specific keywords. George Ure, Its co-creator, claims that its study of the web predicted the September 11 attacks in New York.  It has also been suggested that the Web Bot Project can also predict natural disasters including earthquakes. He now claims that the projected world end will be on December 21, 2012. While it is possible that the internet could be used to predict man made events, terrorist attacks,  or other human-caused events, there little belief that it could predict something that man had no control over like an earthquake or the end of the world.

The 2012 Galactic alignment theory is held by some scientist that mass extinction in the fossil record show that vertical oscillations of the sun as it orbits the galactic center cause it to pass through the galactic plane. The Suns orbit sometimes takes it out of the galactic plane and the influence of the galactic tide is weaker and as it coincides with the galactic plane every 25 million years, the galactic tides influence is stronger. This leads to an increase of flux density of the Oort cloud of four times normal strength. This would increase the chances of a comet impacting the earth. During the last 1000 years,during the winter solstice, the Earth, Sun and the galactic equator are aligned, and each year, the precession pushes the Sun's position a little way further through the Milky Way's band. This could have a cumulative effect and push the earth further into the galactic lens effect.

         There is a planet that orbits the sun every 3600 years. This planet has been referred to as Planet X, or “Nibiru”.
